Police officers are often expected to do things that aren’t explicitly in their job description.
From helping kids with math homework, to surprising kids at birthday parties, to giving gifts to people they pull over, cops are constantly providing citizens with services.
In addition to helping people, though, cops also often help animals. For the most part, they spend their time helping animals like cats and dogs, but once in a while they go outside their traditional duties to help other animals in need.
A group of British police officers on burglary patrol recently came across something interesting while working. In the middle of the street, they saw a small pink animal.
When they got closer, they realized the tiny pink animal was actually a baby squirrel, completely lost and alone.
Instead of leaving the baby squirrel on the street to fend for itself, the Hackney police officers decided to try to reunite it with its mother.
While on duty, British police officers in Hackney found a small animal in the middle of the road.
Although it wasn’t their duty, they knew they had to help the baby rodent.
Instead of leaving the animal to fend for himself, they approached him to see how they could help.
The little pink baby was probably dropped while his mother was carrying him from one nest to another.
The baby, an infant, needed his mother to properly survive, so the police knew they had to try their best to reunite the baby with his mama.
The officers put on gloves and approached the tiny squirrel, hopeful that they would be able to help the baby.
According to the Hackney Police Twitter account: “The problem solving team found a lost baby squirrel today, safely reunited with its Mother. Not what you normally find on burglary patrols!”
The squirrel was so tiny that he was barely larger than one of the police officers’ fingers.
They haven’t disclosed how they were able to reunite the baby with his mother, but they were apparently able to do so.
