Talk show host Ellen Degeneres celebrated her 60th birthday on January 26, 2018, and had been receiving gifts from stars such as Justin Timberlake, who sang «Happy Birthday» over video chat, and Dax Shepard, who treated Ellen to a sexy serenade. But only one gift absolutely moved Ellen to tears and genuinely surprised her…and it’s all thanks to her thoughtful wife, Portia de Rossi.
Portia dropped by on the February 1st episode of Ellen’s birthday week series, much to Ellen’s surprise. She explained how she had a special gift for Ellen, which totally blew her away.
“It’s your 60th birthday, and this gift had to be really special, and it had to represent who you are and what you really care about. Not just now, but what you’ve always cared about. What you were influenced by and what has made you the amazing person that you are today,” Portia explained.
“So, I combined that and questions when we first met like who’s your idol, and what would you do if you weren’t a talk show host?»
«Literally guys, for like the last two years, Ellen has said to me, ‘I feel like I’m not doing enough.’ Every day, almost. So, I put all that together, and I got you this gift.”
Portia shared the news that she was giving Ellen a gorilla sanctuary in her name in Rwanda, the first initiative of The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund. Ellen has been an animal rights activist for many years, and thanked Portia for the perfect gift.
