Are you guilty of keeping your phone tucked under your pillow as you drift off to sleep?

You’re not the only one, but it’s a habit that you might want to kick, as experts have revealed that it could be having detrimental effects on your health.

According to a warning from the University of California’s Department of Health, mobile phone use could increase a risk of cancer, experiencing infertility issues, and mental health problems.

Although some of the news may sound familiar, as warnings about the devices have been ongoing, two new compelling studies from the American university have found that the handsets have detrimental results due to the radiofrequency (RF) energy that mobile phones use to transmit information.

Firstly, worrying research indicates that the proximity of our phones can affect increase the risk of cancer, with brain cancer and tumours of the acoustic nerve (needed for hearing and maintaining balance) and salivary glands most at risk.

Lower sperm counts and inactive or less mobile sperm have also been noted with excessive use, as well as headaches and effects on learning and memory,
hearing, behaviour, and sleep.

Although radiofrequency from mobile phones does gravely affect adults, it may be able to penetrate the brain matter of children more easily than in adults, resulting in damaging, lasting effects on the developing brain.

So how can we reduce the risk of handsets giving us health problems?

It is advised to keep your phone at a safe distance from you when not in use, and for us to turn our phones off more often.

When the handset is switched off, it cannot emit any radiofrequency.
