To help other people, you don’t have to spend millions on charity or travel around the world saving those in need. Kindness can manifest itself in everyday activities. In fact, most people want to help others, but often don’t know how to do it.
That is why a group of initiative citizens decided to conduct an unusual social experiment. The guys wanted to show people an easy way to help others and check if they would use that opportunity. In a busy place in the City of San Diego, a special board was installed. Then, the guys pinned twenty one-dollar bills to it. And at the top of it, in large letters, they wrote: “Take what you need. Give what you can.”
A hidden camera was installed nearby to film the reactions of passers-by. What the camera captured is truly amazing! Some people took a few dollars off the board, but most people donated their money to the street charity. In just 45 minutes, the amount on the stand doubled, and soon, the whole shield was covered with bills!
Then, the experimenters saw an elderly homeless man walking past the shield without taking anything from there. They were so shocked that one of them approached him. “Don’t you want to take a few dollars for yourself?” they asked. “Not really cause there are hundreds of people in more need than I am. As long as I got my mental health and a meal for tomorrow, I am… I’m not greedy!”
This simple experiment showed that we are surrounded by a lot of kind and sympathetic people. If you liked this story, then be sure to share it with your friends.
