Students Are Confused When School Bans Them From Prom Unless They Have A Date

bez-imeni-1

One high school in Chicago is causing a stir with its unusual prom policy. Marist High School released a statement that nobody can go “stag” (or alone) to prom.

The rule is a bit unusual since, well, teens don’t always have the easiest time getting dates or asking each other out. Sometimes, kids just enjoy going in a big group to avoid any awkwardness. They’re just teenagers, so why the pressure to date?

Some students feel it might put a damper on spending quality time with their friends.

“You know, we’re seniors, gonna’ be with our friends, it’s our last big thing before graduation,” said student Ravin McMorris. “It may be hard for people who don’t have boyfriends, but it’s something that when you sign up for this school, it’s just part of it.”

There also is another point of contention with the school’s rules: the dress code. Some students feel that the dress code is “fat shaming.”

“Some girls may wear the same dress but due to body types, one dress may be acceptable while the other is not,” the policy states.

Moreover, the boys have no restrictions, while the girls have a 21-page booklet on what not to wear. Still, many parents don’t have any issue and believe it prevents their kids from showing too much skin.

“This is inappropriate. As a mom with three girls, you have to draw the line,” one mom said.

Ravin believes that she and other students will be able to handle the restrictions if they are still able to feel confident about what they are wearing.

“As long as you can still look pretty in your dress and still feel beautiful, that’s all it’s about,” Ravin added.
