This Is Why Every Self-Respecting Spaniard Has a Box of Plastic Bottle Caps at Home

bez-imeni-1

For several years now, among many families in Spain it’s not considered acceptable to simply throw away plastic bottle caps. They’re either collected at home or placed in special boxes in shopping centers. But why is this happening?

1

It all began with a little girl called Aitana Garcia. She was born with a complex heart defect. The only thing that could help was for her to receive expensive medical treatment in the USA. The child’s parents appealed for help on television. A plastic processing plant soon offered to pay the amount of money required in exchange for 200 tons of plastic bottle caps.

2

People began to collect bottle caps everywhere. Boxes were placed in supermarkets, sports clubs, and government offices. The required amount of plastic was collected in just a couple of months.

3

The experience caught on. Now a whole project has been set up which aims to conclude agreements with recycling companies. The money made from reusing plastic is helping to save children’s lives. And people are still collecting the bottle caps.
