I don’t know about you, but my favorite time of year is quickly approaching: fall! And why do I love fall so much, you ask? Because that means I get to decorate my house and dress up for Halloween!
Now, I’m not someone who completely transforms my front lawn into a zombie-infested graveyard or anything like that, but I still do my fair share of creepy DIYing.
If you’re looking for inspiration for this year’s Halloween setup and you want to scare the pants off of everyone who comes to your front door, check out the list of ideas below.
1. Haunted Figurines
Knickknacks can be creepy enough on their own, but this DIY takes them to a whole new level. Who knew black and red paint could be so scary?
2. Zombie Dolls
Remember all of those dolls your great aunt Mary left for you? Well, if you thought they were terrifying now, wait ’til you give them a zombie makeover! At least you’ll be putting them to good use, right?
3. Insane Asylum Prop
If anyone I knew had this sitting beside their front door, I wouldn’t go anywhere near their house — that’s how much it creeps me out! So, if you’re looking for terrifying, this is the project for you. All you need to make it happen is a skeleton prop, a styrofoam head, a wig, and some thrift store clothing.
4. Eerie Mirror
Guests are in for the shock of their life when they walk into your home, check themselves in the mirror, and come face-to-face with this lady — and you’ll have so much fun watching their reactions!
5. Dried Apple Shrunken Heads
If you want your kids to love apples, don’t show them this DIY. But if you want your house to be the scariest on the trick-or-treating circuit, you should definitely give it a try.
6. Ghost Face Picture Frame
Cheesecloth may not sound very scary, but when you cover the always creepy doll face with it, you end up with one heck of an eerie-looking prop for your home.
7. Zombie Baby Head
I think we can all agree that dolls are creepy enough without a zombie makeover, so this DIY will definitely give you the heebie jeebies. Perfect for Halloween though, I guess!
8. Head In A Jar
Give your coworkers the fright of their lives with this harmless prank. As long as you know your way around a photo editing program, you can make this project work.
9. Spooky Crystal Ball Candlesticks
If the look you desire is «Spooky Victorian,» then this DIY will be right up your alley! And to get started, all you need is some transparency film and clear Christmas bulbs.
10. Bloody Good Cheesecake
Now, for those of you who have no interest in decorating your home with creepy dolls and haunted mirrors, but you still want to partake in all of the spooktacular festivities that are happening, why not whip up one of these? It’s gross and creepy, but also delicious.
11. Pizza Skulls
You’ll never look at pizza the same way again once you dig into this grizzly party dish! If The Walking Dead were a meal, this is what it would look like.
12. Shadow Costume
Not only would this costume be super easy to put together, but the scare-factor would be insane! The only thing I’m going to suggest is not letting anyone walk around after dark in this getup — you still want people in cars to be able to see you!
13. Hocus Pocus Spellbook
«BOOOK!» Channel your inner Winnie Sanderson by DIYing the creepy spellbook she loved so much. Just remember not to light the black flame candle — unless you’re into that type of thing, of course.
14. Chicken Wire Ghost
I think the only thing this project needs to really hit the fear factor out of the park is some sort of uplighting to illuminate your ghostly figure once the sun sets!
15. Blood Spattered Dinnerware
I think it would be pretty hard to sit at someone’s dinner table and not be a tiny bit freaked out if it was set with this collection of napkins, cups, and vases.
16. DIY Specimen Jars
To make your home look like a mad scientist’s lab, you need a few jars, some water, food coloring, and specimens. And creating the formaldehyde is simple. Use approximately seven drops of yellow food coloring, one drop of green, and water everything down until you’re happy with it.
17. Finger-On-The-Doorbell
You can’t put one of these on your doorbell and not set up a hidden camera. I think the reactions you would capture would be hilarious! Who wouldn’t be terrified seeing that? Even if it was just for a split second.
18. Boneyard Lantern
The Catacombs don’t have anything on this DIY! Okay, that’s not true at all. They’re way more terrifying. But that doesn’t change the fact that this skull lantern is still creepy AF!
19. Spooky Bird Silhouettes
Personally, I’m not afraid of birds, but I know plenty of people who are. And even though they don’t scare me, I’d be skeptical going up to a house that could potentially contain a flock of ginormous monsters!
20. Halloween Snake Basket
Attention Tim Burton fans: this Halloween craft is for you! Who doesn’t love a good snake basket DIY, right? Your neighbors might think you’re a bit odd when you display it on your front porch, but that’s their problem.
21. Haunted House Houseplants
Giving your home a creepy vibe without getting too crazy with decor can be as simple as covering a few dollar-store faux plants with black spray paint.
22. Zombie Siamese Twin Dolls
Well, that’s one way to ruin someone’s childhood. I’m definitely getting a Nightmare Before Christmas vibe from this project, which means it’s the perfect balance of creepy and awesome.
23. Witch’s Brew
Your guests will be pleasantly surprised when they slurp back a glass of this suspicious concoction. Made with green Jello, pineapple juice, vodka, and Sprite, I’m sure they won’t mind if you put a spell on them!
