t was in 2007 when Thomas Beatie made headlines in the media after becoming the first legally documented male to be pregnant.

In 2008 he gave birth to a girl and, in 2011, to two more babies, and since then his life has caused some looks.

After several appearances on national and international TV, Thomas received as much admiration as he did disdain, even receiving death threats and all kinds of insults on line, via email, Facebook and YouTube. Thomas said: “Some of those messages have been terrifying… The FBI has been involved and they are keeping an eye on things for us. The world is full of crazy people”.

His fame continued to rise with the publication of his book in 2008 and his star appearance on a French series in 2016. Unfortunately, his personal life hasn’t been as successful. In 2012, he and his wife, Nancy, decided to get divorced after nine years together.

The couple’s divorce was initially blocked when the Arizona County Family Court found that their marriage itself wasn’t legal given Thomas’ status. Judge Douglas Gerlach denied the divorce on grounds that Beatie hadn’t demonstrated that he was a male when he got married in 2003, and therefore couldn’t show that he and his wife were a heterosexual couple.

However, in 2013 the Arizona Appeals Court decided unanimously that the divorce could go ahead because Thomas Beatie’s 2003 wedding in Hawaii was considered legal in Arizona, and the couple went ahead with their separation.

Four years later, Thomas found love once more, with a woman called Amber Nicholas, who worked at her children’s school. The couple got married in 2016 and they haven’t ruled out the possibility of having kids.
