Back in 2016, a little girl by the name of Tegan Marie burst onto the country music scene with her cover of Florida Georgia Line’s hit “H.O.L.Y.” At the time, millions of music fans were amazed by the 12-year-old’s sweet voice and angelic look, and quickly made sure that the video went viral.

“Sometimes I want to pinch myself because I can’t believe the response I’ve received from the country community,” Tegan told Rare Country back in 2016. “Covering ‘H.O.L.Y.’ was an easy choice for me because it’s one of my favorite songs and I’ve been a fan of Florida Georgia Line for a long time. I am so grateful for all those who have rallied behind me and shared this video and, of course, to my Teganites for their continued support. I love country music.”

Tegan went on to release a number of other video covers of some of her favorite country music artists such as Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Faith Hill. In 2017 alone, Tegan garnered more than 100 million video views with 270 million social engagements and gained two million social followers.

And then, she got quiet.

While many fans might have wondered where Tegan had gone and what she was up to, Nashville insiders knew exactly what she was doing. She was getting ready to be a star.

Taking her first step to star status, Tegan has released her official music video for her new song, “Keep It Lit,” and yes, that little 12-year-old who we once knew has now become a beautiful young teenager.

Filmed in California, the video features a retro green bus and a sun-shiny treatment that perfectly matches this 14-year-old talent’s overall attitude and sound. Video director “Veronica [Zelle] saw what I was feeling when we wrote that song,” shared Tegan in a recent press release. “It’s about celebrating the people that come into our lives, and that was what the video became.”

Tegan couldn’t help but share her excitement about the new video, posting a portion of it on her Instagram page on Jan. 19, saying, “It’s out everyone! I would be grateful and honored if you gave it a look.”

Tegan will celebrate this next step in what looks to be a budding career on Jan. 19 on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. She will also perform the song on NBC’s “Today” with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb on Jan. 31, and later in the day, she will have her New York City concert debut in The Studio at Opry City Stage. Tegan is also in the middle of working on her debut album for the big-time record label that recent signed her, Warner Music Nashville.
