We all know the role of garbage men as just collecting stuff that we no longer need. After role, that is what they are supposed to do. However, here comes a different story altogether. One garbage man in the city of Bloomington in Illinois did collect something never expected. It was a birthday cupcake that he received from one of his favorite fan named Brooklyn Andrake, a 3-year-old.
“My heart melts with joy on every Thursday when the amazing garbage man would come by to honk and at least wave at Brooklyn with broad smiles on his face. She is always happy to see him and cannot afford to miss him on any Thursday,” Brooklyn’s mom wrote on the official Facebook page of Bloomington city.
“And on this day… Brooklyn and I packed one of her birthday cupcakes and patiently waited for him to come by. When he indeed came to us, he pulled out as usual to wave. This time, the garbage man stopped and got out to give us a BIG smile. I think he must have been surprised by what he saw as it was a day unusual. Brooklyn was right there to hand over the package to him. She did it without uttering a word to him. I then took it upon myself to explain what all that meant to him. I started by saying that the usual waves meant a lot to my daughter and I. The broad smiles makes our day every Thursday. We gave him the gift in appreciation for the hooting and waving which he did out of his heart, and that meant a lot to us. After he has gone, we would then start looking forward to the next Thursday when he would appear again.”
We often overlook the priceless things that others do to us. In the case of Brooklyn and her mom, they did appreciate the garbage man in a simple but a special way. The little that one does is meaningful when appreciated all heartedly.
“My heart is full when I see the joy that our amazing garbage man brings Brooklyn,” wrote Brooklyn’s mom

“I explained to him that he makes our day every Thursday,” wrote Brooklyn’s mom
The story isn’t over there though because next week Delvar had his own surprise for Brooklyn!
“He pulled out the most amazing, awesome and generous birthday gifts for her”
“His kindness towards her has touched my heart in a way I can’t describe. Thursdays ROCK! Thank you, Delvar!”
