You don’t see an act of kindness quite as incredible as this one every day.
When a 16-year-old with autism named Evan O’Dwyer went to get a haircut, things took a turn for the worse. The teen felt uncomfortable and popped right out of his chair halfway through getting his new style. He darted straight out of the barbershop and ran to his family’s minivan.
This vehicle was Evan’s “safe space,” so he needed to sit inside and calm his nerves. Luckily, his longtime barber, Donncha O’Connell, knew just what to do.
He gathered his tools from the barbershop and followed Evan out to the minivan.
In the video below, posted on June 4, 2017, Donncha perches over Evan in the family automobile and finishes the teen’s haircut. The patient barber knows that this is the best way to get Evan through his bad day and leave him with a fresh new look.
While Donncha buzzes through Evan’s hair, the teen’s brother holds his hands in order to help him relax. Evan is soothed and soon, he is left with a very meaningful haircut.
In the end, all of the effort is worth it.
