Whenever I hear the phrase “road trip,” I think of endless roads, music on the radio, and tasty snacks.
While out on the road, you can discover many things. One would hope you find an incredible hole-in-the-wall place to eat or the perfect place to stop and smell the fresh air. Maybe somewhere to get a perfect tourist photo, too!
You wouldn’t necessarily want to stumble upon abandoned animals. But thankfully, that is what happened to brothers Briggs LocHaven and Chris Vanness.
The siblings were driving from Arizona to Colorado at the end of February when they spotted something strange. They were driving in the middle of nowhere, but they noticed two animals on the road. At first, they thought they were prairie dogs, but when they got a closer look, they realized that they were two dehydrated and malnourished dogs. Luckily, these dogs have a story with a happy ending!
The two dogs were very thirsty and hungry. The brothers didn’t even have to capture them, as they hopped right into the car. The brothers’ hearts sank when they realized these puppies were so alone.
They dogs were very friendly and seemed happy to have new friends.
Over the course of the 24-hour drive, the brothers fed the puppies in small doses. After about 10 hours, they seemed to perk up and enjoy things more.
Lucky for these two puppies, they were found by people with good connections: The brothers just so happened to know someone who rescues dogs. When they got to their destination, they were able to get the puppies a safe, new home.
“They both have found an amazing home and family with another rescue dog! And they get to stay together!” LocHaven wrote in an update. “Makes my heart warm and happy!”
