Dropping your kids off at school can be a scary thing. Allowing them to take the bus can be even scarier. When parents of these students realized they had dropped their kids off on a bus that had overturned in an alligator filled lake, they panicked… and rightfully so.
The nightmare inducing story was all too real for parents, as a bus filled with 27 students had flipped into an unsafe lake. Luckily, there was a young hero who was ready to step up and save the day when put into a situation that needed some sort of leadership.
There was a ten-year-old boy who was ready to step up and help in a time of need, and he was able to save the day of all of these 27 kids who needed help. This boy works as a crossing guard for his school, and is living proof that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.
This boy heard nothing but a call to service on the midst of call of anguish and fear, single handedly dragging a dozen kindergartners to the safety of dry land and continuing to run back to the overturned bus to carry out many more.
The driver of the bus began to experience a problem with the brakes suddenly when the vehicle spiraled out of control. Since the brakes began to give out, the driver tried to assume what would be the best route to take the bus so that it would cause the least amount of damage. The children experienced a great amount of scary trauma which caused them to freeze in a moment of needed bravery.
Only one child on the bus sustained injuries that were serious. This means that the quick actions of the hero were directly connected with the safety of the other bus goers. Without the quick thinking of this amazing young man, many lives could have been lost.
The ten-year-old, who goes by Nicholas, pulled many students from the bus who were struggling to gain their bearings, and also ran into the road and flagged down drivers so that they could call and contact the police. Once the police were notified, EMS were on the scene tending to those who needed it.
We are so proud of this young man for stepping up and being the rock that these scattered children needed. Without his guidance, there could have been countless lives lost and harm done. You did a great thing, Nicholas!
