When Carlos De Antonis walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage, nobody knew what to expect. Suddenly, the entire room learned that he had a certain presence unlike anything they’d seen before.
In the video below, posted on June 27, 2017, Carlos centers himself onstage and shakes his head furiously, wiggling his glasses down over his eyes. His nutty antics make the entire audience laugh and cheer for a moment.
“I give happiness every day when I drive my cab, and I sing to everyone,” he tells the judges. “One passenger told me, ‘I think you need to go to America’s Got Talent.’”
Trusting his passenger’s suggestion, Carlos finally prepares to sing “Nessun Dorma,” a huge opera hit made famous by Pavarotti.
Once he starts singing the opera song, the entire audience is captivated. Even Simon‘s jaw drops nearly 20 seconds into his audition. With each note he hits, the crowd roars even more.
Soon, all four judges give the opera singer a standing ovation and begin their critiques.
When Carlos hears what they have to say about him, he chokes up and starts crying. Thankfully, they are tears of joy and accomplishment.
