A person in Canada may be the first in the world to legally raise their child as gender neutral, after campaigning to have all their official documentation marked with an ‘unassigned’ gender.

British Columbian Kori Doty, who identifies as a non-binary trans-parent (meaning they don’t identify as male or female) has gone to great lengths to ensure their baby’s gender doesn’t appeaar on any official records, so that the child can make up their own mind about who they want to be.

Speaking to the Vancouver Sun, Kori said that they refused to label their eight-month-old Searyl with a gender until they ‘have a sense of self and command of vocabulary to tell me who they are.’
