Cat rescued from tiny cage in bad hoarding situation finally got to feel the comfort of a bed of her own

Sophie the cat spent the first three years of her life in a bad hoarding situation. Her and other animals were stuck in small cages that were stacked on top of each other. She was very neglected and had never felt love or affection before.

Thankfully, she was rescued by the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) and eventually found a loving forever home! Sophie settled into her new home and acclimated very quickly.

Every night when her humans went up to bed, she would jump up on their dresser and sleep there. Her humans offered her a spot on their bed, but she refused and insisted she’d sleep on the dresser.

Her humans thought it was pretty uncomfortable up there, so her mom, Christiana Viscusi, thought of a brilliant idea. She cleared off the dresser and put a little bed up there for her. The bed was a big hit!

The bed is a doll bed that looks just like a mini human bed, equipped with comfy blankets and adorable comforters. Her humans tucked her in every night, and she stayed in it until morning! She might get up in the middle of the night sometimes for a snack, but she never failed to get back into her bed until her mom’s alarm goes off in the morning.

Aside from being snuggled up in her bed, Sophie also loved spending time outside. Whenever her mom asked if she wanted to go outside, she would come running and sit down to get her harness put on to go out. She loved enjoying the fresh air while monitoring the yard.

Sophie had a rough start to life, but thankfully she got to experience love for the first time and had an amazing life with her new family. Sadly, Sophie wound up getting a giant hairball lodged in her small intestine, which had to be surgically removed. She then came down with aspiration pneumonia, and despite the vets’ best efforts, wound up passing away at the young age of six.

Although Sophie’s life was cut way too short, she got to live three years like a queen and was loved unconditionally. In her memory, her parents decided to adopt another cat at the shelter. This cat, named Louie, is three years old and was surrendered to the shelter after his owner became sick and could no longer care for him. Luckily, he is now in great hands!
