Couple Skips Adults-Only Wedding When Babysitter Cancels, Then Get A Bill From The Bride

Jessica Baker and her husband were excited for a rare night out. In August 2015, the Minnesota couple planned on attending an adults-only wedding, and Jessica’s mother was going to watch their kids.

But just before the event, Jessica’s mom called and said her niece contracted hand, foot and mouth disease. The mom, who had been exposed to the disease, didn’t want to pass it onto Jessica’s kids, so she canceled her babysitting last minute.

With no one to watch her children for the night, Jessica and her husband decided not to attend the wedding.

A few weeks later, the Bakers received a bill in the mail for $75.90, complete with a service and tax charge. The “invoice” was sent to them by the couple from the wedding they had to miss.

“This cost reflects the amount paid by the bride and groom for meals that were RSVP’d for, reimbursement and explanation for no show, card, call or text would be appreciated,” the letter read.

Jessica was shocked and confused. She posted the bill to Facebook, hoping her friends would have some advice. Instead, the bill went viral and reached Facebook users from all over the country.

What do you think about the bill — justified, or just plain tacky?
