Alice Velasquez was sick of telling her teen daughters to clean their rooms. She would repeat it over and over again. The mess would pile up and Alice would end up cleaning their rooms herself.
She was fed up. The mom wanted to teach her daughters a lesson in responsibility. She went into their rooms and put all their things, as she found them, in the trash.
“What do you do when you are DONE telling your teenage daughters to stop letting their room look like homeless people live there?” she wrote on Facebook. “You put everything (YES EVERYTHING) into plastic bags.”
But here’s the kicker: Everything was put into bags the way she found it. So there could be trash, one sock, and a hairbrush in one bag, while another trash bag may have had the other sock, a shirt, and a laptop in it. In order to get a bag back? The daughters had to pay $25 per bag, not knowing what was inside.
They could only use the $25 if the money had been earned from chores they were already supposed to be doing. No outside money was allowed.
When Alice shared the photos on Facebook, her story went viral. Most parents praised her, while others accused the mom of abuse.
When Alice appeared on The Doctors, the professionals were happy to dismiss any allegations of abuse. They felt it was a creative way to teach her kids how to be responsible members of the community.
