At 20 weeks pregnant, Shelley Tucker learned she was carrying twins. But then, doctors found out something else. They reported Shelley‘s two girls might be Siamese twins.
They were connected at the area of the abdominal cavity and chest. The future mother was told the probability of successful operation to separate the girls is extremely small, and therefore the best way to solve the problem would be an abortion.
But the parents refused. Shelley recalls, “The doctor endured his verdict, and I physically felt my little babies beating inside, as if asking me to leave them alive. And I realized that I cannot do what the doctor was saying. ”
Alison June and Amelie Lee Tuckers were born in March 2011. The first 8 months of their lives the girls spent in the hospital. At this time, the whole family was next to them and looked after babies.
Finally, the surgery was scheduled. The girls had to reach 8 months of age to be able to bear it. It took a staff of 40 doctors and 7 hours of time.
The girls‘ fathers says it was a great happiness for him to see his daughtes develop two different personalities. And the mother says that watching them grow up and make their first steps is a real miracle!!
