After having her front leg broken, a greyhound was found wandering around a market by psychologist Lianne Powell had noticed the stray dog, who they believe is around two to three years old, and took her to the vet right away.
The vet, Ellen Sobry, noticed something strange. The dog was producing milk, but where were the puppies? They concluded she must have given birth between five and seven days before, and they were anxious to know where they were.
‘Limping and at times dragging her cast, she led us along the backstreets and main roads over the fields and along muddy tracks,” said Lianne.
The vet put a collar on the dog, now named Vera, and a leash, and took her back to the market, with a cast on, to see if she would lead them to where her puppies were.
And lead them she does, for about three kilometers to an old abandoned car. The two women then noticed ten newborn puppies on the destroyed backseat of the car.
“At one point we worried she was just trying to find her home but after 3km she turned up a tiny muddy track and led us under a thick hedge and into an abandoned house before crossing the yard and making her way into a car,” said Lianne.
Ellen said that the winter is bad for the breed as many owners will abandon their dogs in the off-season, and then they buy new ones when it comes times for hunting season again.
Vera is still at Ellen’s surgery Clinivet Turre, and is working to find homes for the dogs when it is time for them to leave her care. The only thing that Ellen has to worry about with Vera is the eating, feeding her puppies and sleeping.
We hope they find good homes for these puppies and Vera, and we wish them all the best, and wish Vera a great recovery! You do too? Then Liked Video this post!
