No one really knows how these helpless puppies found themselves in their deadly situation, but it’s a miracle that someone found them when they did.
But the “someone” wasn’t just anyone. Animal Aid Unlimited, a rescue organization in India, has worked for years to help creatures big and small. So when they got a distressing call about three tiny puppies who were stuck in a pool of tar, they knew they had to mobilize quickly.
When they arrived on the scene, the rescue workers realized that “stuck” was an understatement; they little puppies had been there for so long that the tar had hardened and essentially cemented the babies to the ground.
“They were so completely stuck, they couldn’t move a muscle. It looked like they’d been engulfed for hours, and one little baby’s mouth was even stuck open,” reads a post on Animal Aid’s site.
Since the rescuers couldn’t remove these pups from the tar, they ended up lifting up the slab and bringing it with them. Back at their facility, workers applied oil to soften the tar, then began the laborious process of cutting it away from their fur.
Little by little, these precious “living statues” were able to start moving.
“Determined volunteers and staff spent hours to soften the tar with oil and dishsoap, with time out only to plant kisses on the puppies’ noses. Multiple warm baths later…and wow. For babies who had been on the brink of death, this is what happiness looks like,” the company shared on Facebook.
As if that weren’t enough, the people who came to these pups’ rescue were able to locate their mother. She, of course, went right to work providing the nourishment they needed to recover from their harrowing ordeal.
