Petty Officer 3rd Class Leland Hanna had been away from his German shepherd Duchess for seven long months. But in July 2015, he returned home and his beloved dog couldn’t contain herself!
Leland’s wife Samantha recorded the reunion, and it’s the cutest!
In the adorable clip below, the German shepherd is decked out in a red, white, and blue collar to welcome her dad home after his long deployment. When she spots her military dad, she runs straight for the white picket fence and jumps up to smother him in kisses while whining in excitement.
“Hi, little girl,” Leland says to his 3-year-old pup, who’s blocking the gate. “You gotta back up so I can come in!” The German shepherd wants to be as close as possible to her dad and continues to jump up on two legs to give him hugs and kisses.
“I love you,” Leland says while scratching her back. And the love is mutual!
Duchess wastes no time in making up for lost playtime, bringing Leland her rope toy before quickly dropping it in exchange for cuddles.
While Leland was on deployment, the German shepherd would cuddle with one of her owner’s shirts because she missed him so much!
