Exotic dog caught in frozen lake – firefighters’ quick and smart plan has everyone talking

Oakland Fire Department, Station 18, in Oakland, NJ, responded to their 300th call of the year on December 30th. Adogwas witnessed falling throughice on a lake by neighbors. After returning to the firehouse from a fire at a chicken coop, a call came in for an animal rescue, which then turned into an ice rescue.

According to Fire Chief, Scott Cairns, he got to the scene and talked with the witnesses that said that they saw the dog running on the ice when it broke and the dog fell into the water.The dog in question was a Shar-Pei named Lily.

The dog was bravely rescued byGreg Grudzinski andFred Bartling.

The firefighters were tiedto a safetyropeand ventured onto the ice on an ice sled. They pulled themselvesto the dog and were able to pull her onto the sled with them and then they were all pulled back to shore safely.

Cairns stated after the rescue, The dog was given to her ownershortly after the incident and from what they have heard, she seems to be doing very well. The fire department celebrated the rescue and 300th call with pictures on their Facebook page and since then, their story has gone viral.
