A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a sign advertising the four puppies and put it on a post in his yard. As he was putting the final nail in the post, he felt somebody touch him. He turned around and saw a boy.
“Sir”, he said, “I want to buy one of your puppies.” The farmer explained that they came from a fine breed and were very expensive. The boy took out a fistful of coins from his pocket and asked the man if he could at least take a look. He had 39 cents. The farmer called over his dog, Dolly, and the 4 puppies came running after her.
The little boy was in love with the adorable dogs. However, as they approached he noticed something odd. Another puppy slowly appeared, noticeably smaller. He slid along the ramp and clumsily tried to catch up with the others. The boy pointed him out and said he wanted that puppy.
The farmer knelt down next to the boy and told him: “Son, you don’t want that puppy. He’ll never be able to run and play with you like the others.” Then, the boy took a step back, bent down and began to roll up his pants. Upon doing so, he revealed an orthopedic device made of steel, running down both sides of his legs, joining special shoes. Returning to look at the farmer, he said: “I can’t run so well, so I’ll need someone who understands me.”
With tears in his eyes, the farmer bent down and picked up the puppy. He held him carefully and handed him to the boy. When the boy asked him how much he owed the farmer, the man replied he owed him nothing. You can’t put a price on love.
