Hadid posted the photo to her Instagram where she praised the magazine.

In full her caption said:

“I think the beautiful thing about there being international Vogue’s is that, as a fashion community, we are able to celebrate, and share with the world, different cultures. Being half-Palestinian, it means the world to me to be on the first-ever cover(s) of @voguearabia, and I hope that this magazine will show another layer of the fashion industry’s desire to continue to accept, celebrate, and incorporate all people & customs and make everyone feel like they have fashion images and moments they can relate to… & learn and grow in doing so. Thank you @deenathe1st for your vision and for having me on this cover… by the incredible @inezandvinoodh — so much love.”

The photos were shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and have been described as being styled in a “uniquely Arabian way”.

Vogue Arabia’s editor-in-chief said “…there’s no better first ‘face’ to lead the charge for Vogue Arabia than Gigi.”

Though Hadid is part Palestinian, people were unhappy with the photoshoot.

People have called it appropriation.

And said that she used the hijab as “art”, while other women are attacked for wearing it.

And it even got political.

But some said that as she grew up in a Muslim household, she wasn’t appropriating.

People defended Hadid due to her Palestinian father and said it’s not appropriation.

people are really hating on gigi hadid for «appropriating middle eastern culture» when she’s palestinian….ok
