Mark and Natalie Wood, a couple from England, weren’t happy when they ordered food a McDonald’s restaurant near their place and found a small screw attached to the cheeseburger. The couple and their son, Myles, two years old, were horrified by what they had discovered.
According to Metro, it all started when Mark picked up food from the fast food chain on his way home. When she was handed the cheeseburger and unwrapped it, she was aghast to see the screwdriver somewhat buried into the bun.
Mark, 34 years old, said, “Natalie opened it for Myles but sometimes they open it themselves. There it was on top. I couldn’t believe it. I rang them up straight away and they said they would give us a free meal but we were all put off by the food. My seven-year-old said he didn’t want to eat there again.
“My wife runs a food prep company. If something like this happened to us, we would be finished. When the supervisor down there gave us a new burger he said, “There should be no screws in this one,” but it’s nothing to joke about. Hopefully they’ll get to the bottom of it.
Natalie, 32 years old, was not amused by the incident. She’s also not amused by how the fast food chain decided to handle the situation. She believed that what the branch in Falmouth, Cornwall had done “cannot be overlooked.”
Natalie said, “I’m shocked and outraged to say the least. One of my sons could have bitten into it. I immediately rang the store who said, ‘We can change it, bring it back.’ Unhappy with this, I called customer services and was apologized to greatly and said, ‘It shall be investigated but we shall send you some vouchers.’”
A spokesperson for McDonald’s said, “Food quality and safety are of the utmost importance to us. We place great emphasis on quality control and follow rigorous standards in order to avoid any imperfections. As soon as this was brought to our attention, we apologized and offered to replace all of Ms. Wood’s meals which was accepted at the time.
“We have launched an investigation following the reporting of this incident, and the object will be sent to an independent specialist for identification. We will be in touch with Ms. Wood once this is complete.”
There are no reports on what happened after the two parties had discussed the incident.
