Some people have all the luck. They eat healthy, exercise, and live to their 90’s or beyond. It’s not uncommon for these seniors to never see the inside of a nursing home! One elderly woman in Alabama is proof that reaching your twilight years doesn’t mean you’re incapable of taking care of yourself. In fact, this 93-year-old lived in a house all by herself and wouldn’t have it any other way. But, is that always a smart idea?
Sadly, there’s a segment of society that loves to prey on vulnerable seniors. This woman may have thought that she didn’t need anyone to watch over her, but she didn’t realize that there were a couple of men watching her every move.
Her neighbors had been observing the 93-year-old’s routine for a while, when they decided to step in and change her life forever.
Not many people enjoying mowing their own lawns, but hiring a landscaper can be expensive, especially if you’re dependent on social security as your sole source of income. When Rodney Smith Jr. and his friend Terrence Stroy noticed an elderly woman struggling to mow her own lawn, they weren’t interested in taking advantage of her. Instead, they immediately rushed to her side and offered their assistance.
«We did this sweet lady’s lawn today. She is 93, the neighbors told us that she been out their trying to cut her own lawn. Have no fear, raising men lawn care is going to make sure her lawn is done every two weeks! Making a difference in our community!»
Although she wished to remain anonymous, this sprite 93-year-old must have certainly appreciated the help that these two sweet men offered!
Making a difference in the community is top priority for these university students. Even though they had their hands full with college courses, they still made time for those in need.
This feel-good experience was just the start of a fabulous idea that has now expanded beyond this woman’s Alabama lawn, and into neighboring states.
What’s even more incredible is that these spirited young men don’t charge a single penny for their services!
Rodney and Terrence are blessed with a heart-centered entrepreneurial spirit — they saw a need, and decided to fill it. They realized that not everyone is capable, either physically or financially, of manicuring their yards.
«I thought I needed to do something about it. That’s when I decided to cut lawns for the elderly, disabled and single mothers for free.»
Rodney started an extraordinary lawn service that is in the «business» of providing cost-free landscaping for those who truly need it.
Rodney’s charitable service, Raising Men Lawn Care Service, goes beyond maintaining yards free of charge. He also wants to foster a sense of accomplishment for young boys and girls, who are tasked with caring for these lawns, so that they can grow into positive young adults.
«The union of an ordinary yard maintenance service and the commitment to establish an inspiring program to keep our young men and boys (young women and girls) on a positive path while learning and understanding their value in society.»
Rodney’s GoFundMe campaign raised over $40K, and it went straight back into the lawn service. It was used to purchase shirts with logos, lawn equipment, and of course the most important thing of all — refreshments for hot summer days!
