The World War II left no part of the world untouched. The statistics show approx. 80 million of people were killed during the war. But there was a man during that time, who never carried a gun or fired a bullet.
Corporal Desmond Doss registered for the U.S. Army draft when he was eighteen. Doss wanted to serve his country and protect his loved ones during the war, but he believed in non-violence. That is why he refused to use or carry any kind of weapon, all he wanted to do was to help other soldiers. Dess was enlisted as a medic.
Desmond was deployed with the 77th Infantry Division of the US Army. He served in some of the bloodiest and most dangerous battlefields of the WWII with no gun or rifle to protect himself.
In 1945, during the Okinawa battle, the heroic medic was able to save 75 injured soldiers. Each time he saved someone’s life, Desmond prayed out loud, “Lord, please help me get one more.”
Desmond Doss received the Medal of Honor, the highest award for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.”
