Morissa, a waitress from Arizona, U.S., drove to work expecting an ordinary day.
Suddenly, she noticed a bearded, disheveled man sitting on the curb. Instead of rushing into the restaurant and ignoring the man, Morissa asked if he was okay. This small act of kindness was enough to make him break down in tears.
“I helped him off the ground and linked his arm with mine. I introduced myself to Rick and explained that I worked here and we would be happy to have him. I sat him down and told him he could order whatever he wanted, on me,”
Then Rick shared his story with Morissa. He was from Ohio and had been hit by a car. The man couldn’t go to the hospital, because he practically had nothing to his name — not even an ID card to identify himself.
After Rick was finished eating, he expressed his gratitude to Morissa and told her that she had completely restored his faith in humanity. The pair took a photo together.
But just before he left, Rick handed Morissa something she never expected.
“As he goes to leave, he takes off his necklace and hands it to me. I was speechless. I still am. This man gave me the only thing that had any value to him. That is a debt I will never be able to repay.”
“I will never forget Rick and the few moments we spent together. Please, remember to be kind. Remember to help where you can and to do it selflessly.”
