I think it goes without saying that horses are among the most beautiful and majestic animals on earth., It’s always interesting to see horses interact with art.
And it makes sense. Few animals are as elegant and well adapted to artistic forms as these magnificent creatures.
At the moment, our favorite form of art with horses consists of a pair of disconcerting paintings. These two beautiful works are absolutely enchanting, but they are breaking the internet, asking viewers to calculate exactly how many horses are actually on the screen.
Initially, we were quite baffled, but we finally realized the answer.
This beautiful painting called “Pintos” was made by the artist Bev Doolittle in 1975.
Bev and her husband traveled throughout the Southwest of the United States when they faced a small herd of chestnut horses.
The idea of observing and being watched triggered something in Doolittle, who decided to make a painting of the Pintos, and create the world in which they almost disappear behind a backdrop covered with snow.
The painting is beautiful, but it’s hard to know exactly how many horses there are in the picture.
Take a few minutes to observe it!
In fact, when viewed closely, five horses can be seen.
Although not easy to say, due to Doolittle’s deliberate camouflage technique, there are three adult horses grouped together in the center.
On the left side, you can see another horse looking afar off the herd. A small foal is located towards the lower right corner.
Of course, thanks to the deliberately nuanced composition of the painting, someone could “see” more horses in the painting, but many would disagree.
For example, some people claim that there is another horse hidden in the back of the pack.
More commonly, people say they see a more abstract horse in the rocky outcrop behind the herd.
And if there are not enough horses for you, check out another bewildering optical illusion.
This painting is created by an artist Jim Warren and is titled Seven Horses.
It is a beautiful, colorful scene, set on a fantastic beach.
Thanks to the title of the piece, we already know how many horses are hidden in the scene.
Here, the real trick!
The first four can be easily detected, appear quite clearly throughout the scene.
First, there is the entirely distinct horse on the beach.
On closer inspection, you will notice a foamy horse made of waves, a stallion studded in the clouds, and a powerful creature watching from the vegetation on the left side.
The fifth horse can be found in the negative space between the vegetation and the sky in the upper right corner.
The sixth horse is even more abstract — it is hidden, headfirst, in the fall of the purple flowers, to the right. We had to go through the scene to find it!
Where is the seventh horse?
Artist Jim Warren, whose work can be viewed online and on Facebook, advised looking at the arena …
That’s right; the hoof prints in the sand are from the seventh horse! It’s off stage, but the prints are still there!
If you managed to find all the horses, congratulations, you are a very attentive and smart person!
