Sex traffickers are getting innovative when it comes to getting to their victims. It is sad to think that there are people out there who would do such a thing, but the danger of sex trafficking is real and the situation Ashley Hardacre found herself in just serves to show that we need to be extra cautious when out at night.
After the incident she found herself in, Ashley took it to Facebook to warn everyone about the new dangers out there.
As she finished her shift in a local mall in Flint, Ashley went to her car to get home. As she got in and closed the door, she saw something bizarre on her windshield. On her Facebook post, she wrote:
I got to my car and locked the doors behind me immediately as I always do and noticed that there was a blue flannel shirt on my windshield.
At first, it didn’t faze her, but when she realized what was going on, she made a life-saving decision:
There were two cars near me and one was running so I immediately felt uneasy and knew I couldn’t get out to get it off. At first, I thought maybe someone had just thrown it on my car for some odd reason. Luckily I knew better than to remove the shirt with cars around me, so I drove over to a place where I was safe and quickly rolled down my window and got the shirt off.
It was a good decision to make, the one she will be proud of for a long time.
It has been reported that throwing random objects on car windshields has been the newest sex traffickers’ tactic. It would make the person get out of the car to remove the object which is when the kidnapper would act.
In an interview with CBS News, Flint Township Police Detective Sgt. Brad Wangler reminded that it’s important to be cautious especially “if something doesn’t seem right, or the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.” He continued, “But by all means, we need to know about this stuff when it happens. Nothing like this has ever happened before. There have been no other incidences like this. It’s kind of unknown as to what or why or who [did this].
Sex trafficking is very much present still though many arrest are being made. It is very important to be careful and mindful. Always make sure to be accompanied, especially when walking around at night.
Also, if you do not have a pepper spray, make sure you hold your hand in a fist with the key inside it perpendicular to your body. We need to take care of ourselves because bad things can happen in a split of a second.
