There’s something about discovering talent in unlikely people that we simply can’t get enough of, which is perhaps why audiences are mesmerized with 12-year-old Maia Gough’s powerhouse voice. It seems this young girl was simply born to sing.
The young lady debuted her voice during Britain’s Got Talent in the spring of 2015, wearing a shimmery soft dress to complement her endearing stage presence. When Gough’s soft voice explained that she would be singing a Whitney Houston classic, judges Simon Cowell and Alesha Dixon looked noticeably hesitant.
As the music filled the auditorium, Gough began singing the opening lines to Houston’s, “I Have Nothing.” Within seconds, the judges’ eyes were dialed in, intently focused on the strong, confident
By the time the chorus rolled around, the audience was roaring with applause, and the judges were clearly impressed. Even the lovable grump, Simon Cowell, had a smile on his face.
Young Gough eventually went on to the semi-final round of BGT before she was outvoted by the public for a spot in the final round. Her semi-final performance was just as impressive, perhaps even more so, as the singer was battling tonsillitis during the time.
Dixon told the rising star that her musical career looks bright. “You are such a pro, you wouldn’t know you didn’t have many rehearsals. You hit those big notes. For your age, it is so impressive. You have got it,” she gushed.
Though she didn’t win the competition, Gough has garnered brilliant exposure for herself that she can always take with her. She continues to pursue her career, recording covers of her favorite artists.
If you can’t get enough of Britain’s Got Talent, you will love meeting the young woman who didn’t tell a soul she was auditioning, out of fear and anxiety. Her voice, described as “liquid gold,” is worth the listen.
