Actor Justin Baldoni from Jane the Virgin enjoyed a trip to Whole Foods with his wife Emily, his daughter Maiya, and his dad.
But as many parents know, children can go from happy one minute to having an absolute meltdown the next.
Emily snapped a photo of Maiya throwing a tantrum while Justin and his dad looked down at her. But what you’ll notice is the men aren’t embarrassed or mad about the child’s actions. In fact, they’re rather calm and almost amused by her lying on the ground.
Along with the photo, which Justin uploaded to his social media accounts on June 19, 2017, he penned a long letter to all parents. In the letter, he tips his hat to his father’s parenting skills and reiterates that parents should never feel embarrassed about what their child is doing in a public space. Or as he calls it, “being comfortable in the uncomfortable.”
Justin’s words and poignant photo have resonated deeply with other parents. It has been shared over 35,000 times and has more than 5,200 comments.

Justin Baldoni posted this photo of his daughter Maiya throwing a tantrum in a Whole Foods and wrote a letter to all parents on the importance of staying calm.
Justin wrote:
Emily took this in Whole Foods. It’s now one of my favorite photos ever of me and my dad. Two men, standing together in silence, forever bonded by an unconditional love for both each other and this brand new, raw and pure soul who we would both go to the ends of the earth for.
This is the note Justin posted alongside the photo. In it, he honors his father for the way he raised him and taught him how to be a parent.
“There are no perfect parents, but one thing my dad taught me is to not parent based on what anyone else thinks,” he wrote.
His words have resonated with other parents and they have been shared over 35,000 times on Facebook.
Here, Justin smiles with his daughter Maiya, who makes many appearances on his social media accounts. “I try to remember to make sure my daughter knows it’s OK that she feels deeply,” Justin says in his Facebook post.
Justin married Emily on July 27, 2013, and their daughter Maiya was born in June 2015. The family is also expecting a new addition!
On Instagram, Justin, Emily, and Maiya shared with the world the exact moment they found out the sex of their second child.
Justin penned an emotional letter to his unborn son in the caption:
Dear son, This was such a massively profound moment for us… and clearly it hit me hard. But thats ok, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about… in fact emotions are to be celebrated! Tears are good! It’s hard to explain, but I feel like my entire life has been about getting ready for this experience and yet at the same time I feel completely inept and not ready to be a dad again.
Justin loves being a father as it brings him the most joy. He also loves showing his emotional side.
“We should probably be a little more kind and patient with ourselves too,” he wrote in his letter about parenting. “If we got out everything we were feeling and allowed ourselves to throw tantrums and cry when we felt the need to then maybe we’d could also let ourselves feel more joy and happiness. And that is something this world could definitely use a little more of.”
More than 5,000 people have commented on Justin’s photo and note. Many, like this person, loved what he had to say and pointed out even more amazing things about the photo. It’s safe to say many parents agree with Justin’s words.
