It’s hard to realize that in today‘s world there are thousands of kids who don‘t get proper care, live in terrible conditions and are always hungry. What is even more shocking, many of them are neglected and abused by their own parents. While most people do their best to provide their kids with everything they need and give them good support and care, some real monsters make their own children suffer. Happily, there are indifferent people who step in to save those poor innocent human beings.
This story is about one little girl who was saved by a lucky chance and a good man.
Neighbors knew this house in Florida had been inhabited, but they had never seen any children in the yard. They assumed the people who lived there were shy and never got to meet them face-to-face. After three years, a passerby saw something in that house‘s window that made him shocked. There was a pale thin child‘s face. The man called the police immediately.
Officer Michael Holste who received the call rushed to check on the situation. He entered the suspicious house and was left speechless. The scene was terrible: animal feces were covering the floor, chewed-up old food, garbage, spider webs, and cockroaches were everywhere.
The officer started looking for a child, and in a minute, he spotted a skinny little girl with no clothes on. She was 6 years old and was wearing only a dirty diaper.
“When I entered the room, her eyes widened,” Michael said. “She opened her mouth and then crawled sideways, like a crab, to the corner, pulled her knees to her chin, and wrapped her arms around them. Then she started making grunting noises.” He says the 6-years old spoke and behaved like a 6-month-old.
The horrified officer couldn‘t suppose the girl‘s own mother did that to her. The girl who had been named Danielle was taken to the hospital. Her mother was sentenced to two years of house arrest and three years of probation.
Luckily, Danielle wasn‘t sent to an orphanage. She was immediately adopted by a loving couple who already had four sons. Years of abuse left Danielle developmentally disabled and she had many health issues.
However, she is getting better and learning to be loved. With her adoptive family‘s love and care, the girl‘s condition will improve.
We are so happy for Danielle! And we want to thank the man who didn‘t walk by and called the police
