When Valerie Watts was 9 months pregnant she experienced what no mom-to-be should ever have to experience. She was left in disbelief when with only a few days to her due date Valerie received the heartbreaking news she was carrying a stillborn baby.
One can only imagine Valerie’s grief after receiving the news on her baby she had carried for so long. Her world must have been turned upside down, even more so returning home to an empty nursery full of clothes and toys for her new born child.
Like many say – time heals all wounds, Valerie eventually sold the crib in a garage sale. However, she was not prepared for what would happen after she sold it.
This beautiful story is now making its way all over the internet.
“All week I knew, he wasn’t moving as much. I was very nervous.”
These are the words of Valerie Watts from Cokata, Minnesota, when she talks about the week before her son Noah was tragically stillborn.
Valerie was so devastated by the traumatic experience of loosing Noah, she left the nursery untouched for over a year
In May 2014 she took the big step and decided to sell all of the nursery items in a garage sale including the crib. In the back of her mind she thought no one would want to buy such an item.
A man by the name of Gerald took Valerie by surprise when he showed an interest in the crib. Gerald restores old furniture in his spare time, however he could sense a reluctance from Valerie to part with it.
“She was kind of hesitant, I knew that maybe she didn’t want to sell it. Yet she did,”
Gerald had just assumed the garage sale was for baby items not needed anymore, not knowing the tragic events that had unfolded a year prior.
Unknownst to Gerald, his wife who was also at the garage sale with him had been chatting with Valerie earlier in the day. On questioning Valerie on the age of her child, Valerie revealed to her the tragic circumstances of the death of her Noah.
On his journey home with the crib, Gerald’s wife informed him of the tragedy that had befell Valerie. Upon hearing this he decided he must return the crib to her.
But Gerald also understood that it could be just as equally painful to have it in the shape of a crib – so he decided to transform it into a beautiful bench as a memorial for Noah.
Knowing it could be painful to return the crib to Valerie, Gerald took it upon himself to convert it into a beautiful bench in memory of Noah.
Gerald returned to Valerie’s house a week later with a beautiful bench to sit in her home as a memorial to her lost son Noah.
Valerie was taken aback by the generosity shown to her by this stranger and broke down in tears.
“It’s amazing, and there’s good people out there, there’s proof,” Valerie said.
What a thoughtful and beautiful gift from Gerald to honor her son Noah.
