Just 18 months ago, Jessica Beniquez was eating junk food regularly and spent most of her free time watching TV shows on Netflix. “All I did was eat, go to work, and watch my shows,” Jessica said. By the age of 19, she already weighed over 320 pounds.
A couple of months into 2016, Jessica decided it was time for her to put an end to it all and change her habits.
The first thing that had to go was the fast food. She replaced it with healthier alternatives with fewer calories.
The next step towards her goal was exercising regularly. She started off with walking and YouTube workouts instead of Netflix, and then followed the gym – Jessica’s greatest fear. She simply couldn’t imagine herself working out there with all the other people being present.
However, the gym is her “happy place” now and she exercises for two hours daily, no exceptions.
The fitness experience has positively affected Jessica in more than one way.
She shares her journey with other people via Instagram.
She hopes to serve as an inspiration to other people who are experiencing weight issues.
“My name is Jessica and I’m 21,” she said on Instagram. “I’m 5’4 and I have lost over 170 lbs with diet and exercise. Starting at over 320 lbs and currently between 145-148. There were and still are obstacles that get in the way, but that’s just the way it is and I have to deal with it. Did I let me give up? NEVER.”
“I have dedicated my life to fitness and I have learned to love it when before I started this journey, I would dread just walking to the bus stop that was not even a 5 min walk.”
The changes haven’t been only physical either. “I never expected to be where I am today. I was shy, but now I have so much more confidence, I have so much more energy… It’s crazy the things I can do now that I couldn’t do before.”
