Jennifer Melton gave birth to a happy and healthy baby boy. The following day, Jennifer handed baby Nate over to the nurses for his routine physical. He’d be weighed and his blood type would be analyzed… nothing out-of-the-ordinary.
Jennifer was instructed to rest for a few hours, and before she knew it, Nate was back in her arms.
But then the nurse mentioned the procedure the doctors had just performed on Nate. The only problem? Jennifer was never told her newborn son was to undergo any sort of procedure outside the normal physical.
Jennifer heard the nurse describe the apparent “tongue clipping” that had occurred. As it turned out, the doctor had apparently performed a frenulectomy on Nate, a surgical operation that removed the piece of tissue connecting the tongue to the floor of the mouth.
Horrified, the Tennessee mother picked Nate up and looked inside his mouth. She noticed blood spots underneath his tongue and instantly broke down in tears.
Doctors had asked nurses for the wrong infant, and mistakenly performed an unnecessary surgery on the day-old baby.
Jennifer is sharing her story to help other parents avoid having to endure what she describes as her “worst nightmare.”
