One day this couple decides to stop eating. How they’ve managed to survive after three years is unbelievable.

Diet trends and special nutrition practices that promise health, happiness and energy are a dime a dozen, and there’s one thing that these dietary tips have in common: they’re all based on eating food. But this is not the case with Akahi and Camila’s diet, as the couple has decided to adopt a «food-free» lifestyle.

The couple, who divide their time between California and Ecuador, allegedly stopped eating three years ago; their only source of nutrition is the «energy that exists in all things.» Once connected to this energy through breathing, Akahi and Camila say they no longer feel hunger and proper eating is but a distant memory for them. Following a lifestyle choice known as the breatharian method, 34-year-old Camila even claims to have eaten only five times during her pregnancy. «Humans can easily be without food, as long as they are connected to the energy in the world,» said Camila dreamily.

«For three years, Akahi and I didn’t eat anything at all, and now we only eat occasionally like if we’re in a social situation or if I simply want to taste a fruit,» Camila added. Always feeling full, she also claims that there were no issues with hardly eating during her pregnancy.

The husband and wife feel «healthier and happier» after adopting the breatharian way of life. Camila claims that it helps her regulate her weight and she no longer suffers from the effects of PMS. The extraordinary diet also allows them to save money that they can spend on one of their greatest passions — traveling. On their family trips to exotic destinations around the world, they never feel the urge to eat.

Akahi and Camila made a gradual transition to their new lifestyle. After being vegetarians for many years, they started eliminating all animal products from their diet. The couple first came into contact with breatharianism when they were traveling through South America. Learning about the principle through a friend, they were immediately fascinated by the idea of not eating food.

Before they could give up food for good, their bodies had to slowly adjust to this most extreme of diets during a 21-day course. In the first week, only diluted fruit juices and water were on the menu. The next seven days were then completely free of food or water. To finish, they were allowed to drink water and juices again. Today, both feel cleansed and stronger than ever.

However, the couple doesn’t force their lifestyle onto the children. «We would never try to change them and we let them eat whatever they want, whether that be juices, vegetables, pizza or ice cream. We want them to explore the different tastes and have a healthy relationship with food as they grow,» said Akahi.

Though Camila ate fruit during her second pregnancy, her intake was a lot less than what is recommended for pregnant women. Happy with the diet, she never wants to go back to her old eating habits. «Whenever I eat now, it’s not because I’m hungry. I just don’t remember the sensation,» the mother of two said.

Imagine no longer eating and getting your energy from breathing instead. As doubtful as this claim sounds, the diet has dedicated followers. Yet this lifestyle has also attracted much criticism with many detractors saying it’s already resulted in several deaths.

Even if it were possible to live this way, many people would simply miss the taste of good food. However, Akahi and Camila seem to have found the best method for themselves.
