These identical twin girls are special, the most special to their parents. Abigail and Isobel Parry have Down syndrome, but this is the reason their mom and dad love them even more.
Jodi and Matt Parry, from Chorley, Lancashire, remember the day when doctors told them about screening results. Both girls had Down Syndrome – it sounded like the end of the world and seemed like everything collapsed. The odds of giving birth to a baby with an extra chromosome 21 is one of a thousand, but when it comes to twins the chances are one of a million.
It was hard, but Jodi and Matt embraced the girls’ condition and now they are more than happy, they even say they would not change them for the world.
Down Syndrome can cause physical disability, often hearing and vision issues and congenital heart defects.Isobel was born with a hole in her heart and Abigail wears a hearing aid, and they develop slower than other kids.
Their mom says they have to visit doctors more often, but this is just part of any routine with kids. The couple has an older son Finn, who loves little sisters with all his heart. He admits that in girls’ situation he has to help them a little bit more, but that is okay because he enjoys it! The Parrys have a wonderful family where everyone supports each other.
Abigail and Isobel are going to a mainstream school where they communicate by sign language. They learn how to speak and it takes longer but parents are enthusiastic about any girls’ progress. They achieve their first success and make parents very proud.
Jodi and Matt realize that people often fear of Down Syndrome because they are not well informed of particular pros and cons of raising special children. So many mothers choose to terminate pregnancy finding out about this condition, and that is sad statistics.
