On a cold day, a young student named Casey Fischer walked through the city downtown before going to class. Everything was going as usual, but suddenly she stopped to see how a homeless man asked for coins knocking on windows of cars that were passing.
Casey followed her way to a near cafeteria and made her order, but when she was taking a seat, she saw the homeless guy again. This time, he was counting the coins to see if he could buy something, she approached the man to speak with him. The girl offered him coffee and a beagle, and the man accepted without hesitation.
She answered excitedly all the question the homeless guy asked. Just like that, they a started a long conversation.
The man told her about “how his father had abandoned him at birth, and about how his mother died of cancer shortly after that. The story was terrible, and I felt very distressed. But he was enjoying that coffee like he hadn’t drunk one in years”, said Casey.
He sadly confessed that his only life dream had been made her mother proud, but he couldn’t even accomplish that.
After more than an hour of conversation, she kindly said goodbye because she was running late for her first class. But before that, the guy tearfully stood up y gave her a paper with a note. He apologized for his grammar and left before she could.
After reading the note, Casey froze. She couldn’t believe it, the piece of paper said:
“I wanted to kill myself today. Because of you I now do not. Thank you, beautiful person.”
She shared the story on her Facebook profile, and it has been shared more than 160,000 times. She never thought that encounter would change her life forever.
We must always take any chance to help someone. Her gesture of kindness just cost 3$, some time, and saved a life. In the next picture is Casey with her little son.
