Toothpicks are one of those products that almost everyone has, and they can last for a very, very long time. I know I have a bag of toothpicks bought about 10 years ago lying in my cupboard, and it’s still half full. So, when I found out that toothpicks could prove really useful in the kitchen, I was glad to have found a new use for them. And not only one: there are at least 10 ways toothpicks can be used in the kitchen! Let us count them all:
1. Make a fruit topiary. Perfect for birthdays, baby showers and other occasions that need a touch of color.
2. Keep your produce fresh by capping the ends.
3. To cook potatoes evenly in the microwave, give them ‘legs’ to stand on.
4. Do the same thing if you need to soften the butter in the microwave without melting it.
5. Poke toothpicks into a sweet potato and place it over water. Once sprouts pop, you can plant them!
6. Pin sandwich bread to sliced parts of cake to keep it fresh.
7. Use toothpicks to check if you’re done baking. If they come out clean, your batter has been properly baked!
8. When you have guests over, don’t let them leave used toothpicks around. Use a lemon as the holder to poke toothpicks into!
9. Write a secret message for your kids on a banana using a toothpick! In a while the places where the toothpick was applied will bruise and the message will darken. Awesome, isnt’ it?
