She Was Labeled As ‘Fat’ And ‘Disgusting,’ So She Recorded This To Silence Haters

Whitney Thore struggled with years of eating disorders and self-confidence issues brought on by a medical condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome. Before polycystic ovarian syndrome she was a slim girl and all she wanted to do was dance, but after she became ill, her body rapidly gained weight, over 100 pounds, and she quit dancing.

People called her “disgusting”, “fat” or even worse, those words were like daggers in her heart.

On her website, Thore writes that she “desperately wanted to have a body that gave permission to do the things loved, like dance in public, and a body that gave permission to outwardly be the person [she] was inside: a confident, quirky woman with endless goals and dreams.”

After all, she found the courage in herself and decided to fight back. Whitney created a video series called “A Fat Girl Dancing” and it’s her way of expressing herself while challenging others to reconsider how they think of people around them.
