Vance McFarland, an Army specialist, waited tree years to reunite with his pawed partner and friend who served with him in Afganistan.
Ikar, a German Shepherd, is a Tactical Explosive Detection Dog, worked with McFarland and his team to discover roadside bombs during their deployment. McFarlard says having Ikar by his side had made it a lot better, having him near felt like having a little bit of home.
As soon the two returned from deployment, Ikar was sent to an independent contractor who said they had a work for the dog, but there was no work. Eventually, Ikar spent 17 months there, living in a kennel.
And it was the moment when Mission K9 Rescue stepped in to find Ikar a loving home. They found McFarland’s Facebook page and contacted him. McFarland decided to adopt four-legged partner.
