Betty is the founder of «Barnyard Betty’s Rescue» in the Brisbane Valley in the eastern part of Australia. She loves all animals, and recently she made a new best friend.
Say hello to «Charlotte»…
This impressive specimen is a giant crab spider and the biggest that has ever been found. Betty rescued the animal from some people who wanted to kill it. «She was a beautiful, calm spider, not aggressive in any way and like most spiders she just wanted to go about her business eating bugs and living in peace. She didn’t or doesn’t need to be killed! Poor spiders are so misunderstood!» wrote Betty on Facebook.
Giant crab spiders are harmless creatures that normally grow to a diameter of around five inches. But Charlotte belongs to a subspecies known as «typostola barbata» and is a whopping eight inches in diameter!
Charlotte has now taken up residence at Barnyard Betty’s Rescue where she can enjoy a peaceful life with all the beetles she can eat. And with this kind of care, she might just get a bit bigger!
