Jamie Jenkins and Jakob Lang are a peculiar Australian couple. Although they’re both approximately 5 foot 11 inches tall, they are both carriers of the gene of a condition known as dwarfism.
But that hasn’t stopped them living their lives like anyone else, so much so that they were even expecting their first baby.
However, the medical diagnosis wasn’t very encouraging: in just her 12th week of pregnancy, an ultrasound revealed complications. According to specialists, their baby hadn’t developed lung tissue and she would die, so they were advised to abort the pregnancy.
“I could hear her kicks and had already chosen her name, I couldn’t do it”, said Jamie.
When she was born, Helena surprised everyone. Not only did she survive, she grew like any other baby. At six weeks, however, the same gene as her parents was detected, so she would have dwarfism just like them.
After spending her first three months in hospital and undergoing several operations, Helena was finally able to go home with her parents, who lovingly call her Thumbelina.
Helena is now one year old and is already starring as a model for baby clothing, proving that the only thing that matters is love and a beautiful smile.
