Fostering, whether it’s for humans or animals, can be very bittersweet. It’s always nice to give someone a temporary home so that they don’t need to stay at an orphanage or a shelter. But you can become attached to them, which makes saying goodbye that much harder.
Two-year-old foster child named Buddy went to his foster home in Portland, Oregon, when he was just 11 months old. His foster mom, Kari Lewis, says fostering children is hard but rewarding. Her mom, Sandi Swiridoff, also faces challenges as a foster grandmother.
Swiridoff always had a hard time parting with her foster grandkids, so she decided to add something permanent to her life: a dog. She adopted Reagan, an Australian Labradoodle. When Reagan was 11 months old, they adopted Buddy, who was also 11 months old at the time.
The two of them hit it off instantly and have been inseparable ever since. They will both turn three in February 2017.
The adorable duo does everything together from dressing up, reading, snuggling and playing. Their relationship is so unique, that Swiridoff decided to write a book about it. The book, titled “Regandoodle and Little Buddy – The true story of a Labradoodle and his toddler best friend,” is written from Reagan’s perspective, and will tell the story of their adorable adventures.
Proceeds from the book will go to Foster Parent’s Night Out, an organization that provides a fun time for foster kids and a much-needed break for their foster parents.
