Unless you’re a professional, experienced arachnologist, this huge beast will chill you to the bone.
OMG! I mean really, people, OMG! Simply looking at this Godzilla of the spider world kills any desire to ever go to Australia. The huge huntsman, named Charlotte (that’s a hell of a name for this cutie, isn’t it) was rescued by an Australian animal shelter, and they left her on their farm, fearing she might have got into new trouble. I wonder they rescued poor Charlotte from what? Is there anything in this world dumb enough to mess with THIS?
Though huntsmen are known to be one of the most common types of arthropods in Australia, this one has all chances to enter the Guinness Book as the biggest ever seen. By the way, they get their name from the way they feed – instead of building webs, they hunt down their prey. What a nice thing to find in your garden on Sunday morning, right?
In case any of you wonder how Barnyard Betty’s Rescue keep this pet of theirs, the answer is – they don’t. They simply released Charlotte onto their farm right after rescuing her. If you ever happen to visit their shelter, watch your back (and the rest of your body), just as a precaution. Though this species isn’t considered venomous or dangerous to most humans, their bite won’t make your day.
OK, enough negativity! In fact, those people did it right saving the spider and putting back into its habitat. Charlotte hurt nobody (and never meant to) and simply wanted to go about her business. A smart, mature living being doesn’t kill anyone or anything just based on the look which may be far from Cosmo standards. Like it or not, spiders are an important part of the ecosystem, and they deserve to live on this planet as well as humans do. So let’s learn to share the place!
