We all have one thing or the other that we fear. As for those who have a fear of heights, they will probably freak out over this. This particular bridge has been known to cause panic attacks among those who drive over it. Watching this video, we can certainly see why.
Not a lot of people are fans of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. It is nearly 200 feet high at its tallest point and it spans more than four miles in length!
In addition, it has a pretty interesting origin. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge has been a thing of wonder for a very long time.
WTOP News gives us a brief history about this architectural marvel.
In 1947, the General Assembly, under the leadership of Governor Lane, passed legislation to begin bridge construction. Construction on the bridge began in 1949 and opened to traffic on July 30, 1952. The construction cost was $45 million. At that time, it was the longest continuous over-water steel structure and third longest bridge in the world… The Bay Bridge is 186 feet high at its highest point — high enough to accommodate ocean-going vessels and ships and to give passengers a bird’s eye view of some beautiful scenery.
