As server, you depend on your tips to survive. But a tip that was given to Kasey Simmons, a server at Applebee’s in Little Elm, Texas, appeared to be a mistake at first. His customers, a family, only ordered one flavored water, the cheapest item on the menu. Kasey was annoyed by their order at first, but when he saw the note that was left along with the bill, he was speechless.
The family had left him a $500 tip. It was clear that they had only come in to do something nice for him, and the note explained everything. The day before, he had encountered an old lady in the grocery store who was crying. He paid her some compliments to try and cheer her up. Then he paid for her groceries. It was only $17, but to her it was worth so much more.
«On behalf of the Sullivan family, I want to thank you for being the person you are. On one of the most depressing days of the year, (the death of my father’s 3 year anniversary), you made my mother’s day wonderful. She has been smiling since you did what you did. Her grocery bill was only $17.00, and you insisted on paying, told her she was a very beautiful woman. I have not seen this woman smile this much since dad died.»
It’s amazing how a little kindness can change a person’s life. Kasey just wanted to make someone smile, and in return he got a generous reward. Well deserved!
