After Chris Stapleton and international pop superstar Justin Timberlake took the stage together in 2015 at the CMA Awards, most fans had two questions:
No. 1, how do these two know each other? And No. 2, most importantly, when are they collaborating again?
When Justin recently announced his reflective, nature-themed new album, “Man Of The Woods,” many of us wondered if the Memphis native and Nashville-area resident would give this new project a little more of a country slant, and also if Chris would appear on any of the tracks.
Well, we got our wish, and today we all get to hear the new song these two put together for the first time.
And it exceeds all of our expectations.
“Say Something” is a booming, sweeping, enormous, acoustic-rock track as big as the star-power it boasts.
In the one-take video for the song, Justin starts the track off solo before moving into and ornate and beautiful old building, with band members scattered across stairs and corners. Then, in that second verse, we see that positioned on the staircase across from Justin is his buddy Chris with an acoustic guitar.
As Chris takes the lead on the second verse, the two start walking while strumming their guitars and singing, “Say something that says something.”
Wow! Chris’ booming voice in that acoustically dreamy room is just brilliant.
“Sometimes the greatest way to say something is to say nothing at all.” That may be our favorite line of the entire song.
And then, out of nowhere, the staircases are filled with singers belting out the chorus with the two stars, and y’all, we can’t even take it! Have you ever heard anything so moving? We are covered in goosebumps.
Watch all the way until the end. You won’t want to miss the quick banter between Chris and Justin.
Now, we know Justin is performing the Super Bowl LII halftime show on Feb. 4, and rumor has it that Chris might make an appearance.
It’s just a rumor, so we don’t want to get too excited, but can you imagine if these two got together on one of the world biggest stages?
We can dream, right?
We know for sure that Chris will be performing with Emmylou Harris on the Grammy Awards, which airs on Sunday, Jan. 28. He may even take a few Grammys home, as he’s nominated for three this year: Best Country Solo Performance for “Either Way,” Best Country Song for “Broken Halos” and Best Country Album for “From A Room, Vol. 1.”
As for Justin, his “Man of the Woods” album featuring Chris comes out on Feb. 2.
